The Department for Education and Ofsted require all maintained schools, academies and free schools to:
Participants discuss the implications of this requirement; how the Dolls and their stories can be used to implement it; and how the Prevent Duty can be addressed.
The Prevent strategy 2011 states that: ‘A stronger sense of ‘belonging’ and citizenship makes communities more resilient to terrorist ideology and propagandists. We believe that Prevent depends on integration, democratic participation and a strong interfaith dialogue.’
During Persona Doll story telling sessions ‘British’ values are promoted: empathy, sensitivity, inclusion, respect for the view of others. Practitioners build children’s feelings of belonging, self-esteem, and pride in their own cultural and family backgrounds while respecting and valuing those of the rest of the group.
We have a range of practical training materials to inform and skill practicioners.
